California Science and Engineering Fair Foundation

Celebrating California’s Future Scientists

Inspire and empower the next generation of innovators, problem solvers, and leaders in the fields of science and engineering.

Over the years, the Southern California Science Fair, initiated in 1952, has undergone remarkable growth, expanding from a regional event to becoming the official Science Fair of the State of California in 1990. The fair’s inception, with 237 participants in 1952, marked the beginning of a journey that saw increased sophistication in projects and a widening scope that stimulated science projects throughout the entire state.

By 1959, the fair had outgrown its original venue and relocated to the California Museum of Science and Industry, further reflecting its burgeoning influence. Sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers in 1955, the fair continued to attract attention and support, evolving into the de facto State Science Fair recognized by the late 1970s.

Today, with nearly 1000 students competing annually, the State Science Fair maintains its significant impact, challenging participants from various regions while staying true to its foundational goals of encouraging scientific exploration and recognizing the dedication of students and their mentors.

We believe in equipping your children with the skills to be able to learn for the rest of their lives! By instilling in them a method of analytical thinking, we believe they will be able to be independent thinkers and be high performers in their chosen careers.

What others say

The California Science and Engineering Fair has been a transformative experience for me. It’s not just a competition; it’s a journey of self-discovery and a celebration of curiosity. The opportunity to present my research among peers and experts has fueled my passion for science and given me the confidence to dream big. CSEF has not only broadened my scientific horizons but has also shown me that, as a student, my ideas and contributions matter. It’s an empowering platform that encourages us to explore, innovate, and be the architects of our own futures possible!

― Anthony, Grade 8

As a judge at the California Science and Engineering Fair, I am continually amazed by the caliber of projects and the depth of understanding exhibited by the young minds participating. The fair serves as a testament to the potential of our future scientists and engineers. Witnessing the enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication of these students reaffirms my belief in the power of scientific inquiry. CSEF is not just about evaluating projects; it’s about fostering a community of thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators.
